Bulbous, Rounded Nasal Tip
I have a bulbous and rounded nasal tip. My nose makes me look manly and musculine. I have often been teased for my round nose. Someone even said it looks like a lollipop sticking on my face. Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty? How can I reduce my alar base? Is there a procedure to refine my nasal tip?
Causes of Bulbous, Rounded Nasal Tip
|Congenital
|Excessive lower lateral cartilage (rare in Asians)
|Excessively wide and rounded domal cartilage
|Receded alar cartilage
|Vertically and cephalically positioned cartilages
Solutions to Bulbous, Rounded Nasal Tip
|Alar base reduction
|Nasal tip refinement
|Nasal augmentation
A refined nasal tip is an important factor contributing to a perfect nose. In contrast to Caucasian’s narrow nasal tip, Asian nasal tip appears to be more rounded. Patients with bulbous and rounded nasal tip often complains a flat nose with short nasal bridge along with wide alar base.
Bulbous and rounded Asian nasal tip results from thick skin in addition to thinner and weaker nasal cartilage. Specifically, bulbous tip are caused by the over-projection and receded nasal cartilage. Therefore, nasal bridge augmentation without nasal tip refinement does not enhance the definition nor improve the shape of the nasal tip.
